John Van Vliet, a legendary animator and visual effects supervisor, will give a free presentation to the public on Tuesday April 16, 2013 from 6-7:30pm at the IUPUI Campus Center Theater. The presentation comes in the midst of a large, popular, online course the Computer Graphics Technology program offered this spring entitled, “CGT 299: The Road to Hollywood with John Van Vliet.”

The-Road-to-Hollywood-600

Designed as a mentoring opportunity, this course covers a multitude of skills that will allow students interested in working in the entertainment industry to better understand the culture of Hollywood. John’s talk at IUPUI will build upon the course content and he will discuss the current climate of Visual Effects and Computer Graphics in Hollywood.

As an instructor at IUPUI in the CGT department, I helped create the content for this course, in coordination with Dan Baldwin, John Van Vliet, Jan Cowan, and Pam Malouf.  The content in this course is a wonderful blessing for the students to hear.  John has been interacting with the students over the course of the semester in chat sessions which have been well received by the students.  Overall, there are 7 hours of video content that John produced for this class, including clips from many of the movies he has worked on.
